Translation process description:
A translation in the selected language combination will be done by a native speaker of target language. One of the important requirements for translator selection is translator's experience in the subject field of translation. Translation will be estimated by native speaking proofreader of target language according to quality control procedures. In case if the quality control shows a necessity of proofreading, it will be done by another native speaking linguist with knowledge of the subject field. Before final delivery, the translation passes through quality assurance procedures. A translation in the selected language combination will be done by a professional translator of target language. However, there is no available native speaking translators for the selected languages. To maintain high level of quality the translation will be proofread by native speaking proofreader of the target language having experience in the subject field of translation obligatory. Before final delivery, the translation passes through quality assurance procedures. There is no possibility to arrange direct translation from the selected source language into target language. That is why the translation process is divided into two phases. The first phase is translation from source language into an intermediate language. The translator will be qualified native speaking translator of the intermediate language having knowledge and experience in the subject field of translation. To maintain high level of quality the translation will be proofread by native speaking proofreader of the intermediate language obligatory. After obligatory proofreading the text in intermediate language is handed over to the native speaking translator of selected target language. Phase 2 ends with obligatory proofreading by native speaking proofreader of target language having experience in the subject field of translation. Before final delivery, the translation passes through quality assurance procedures.

Certified translations

Certified translations may be required where translated documents are to be presented to State bodies, authorities, courts, police and other official institutions and government organisations.

Often certified translations are needed to get permission to study, work or live abroad, in matters concerning heritage or property, and anywhere else where the credibility and conformity of the original documents and their translations must be confirmed.

Freelanguage offers three types of certification:

  1. Certification by translator

This option is suitable in majority of cases as the translation is signed by the person who has carried it out and this person undertakes full responsibility for the correctness and authenticity of the translation.

Original documents are sent via ordinary mail and delivered on paper (hardcopies). The note of certification includes the translator's name, address and contact details as well as information about their professional status (level of education, degree, certification, if applicable).

The disadvantage of this kind of certification is that it might not have the legal force that is required.

Price of one certified document: 25.00 EUR.
  2. Certification by Freelanguage

As Freelanguage is an officially registered translation company all translations may be sealed and signed by the relevant employee. The seal and signature on the note of certification states that our company guarantees that the translation was done properly, includes no mistranslations and fully corresponds to the original document in meaning, sense and style. The note of certification includes the official company name, legal address and contact details as well as information about the translator (name, level of education, degree, and certification, if applicable).

Price of one certified document: 10.00 EUR.
  3. Certification by a notary

This certification is recognised by most authorities and State bodies.

A notary certifies the translator's signature in the translated document and confirms the presence of the undersigned in the notary office.

To make a notary certification a translator has to be registered at the notary office and to arrive there in person. The note of certification is done according to notary office standards and is written in the official State language of the country where the notary office is located.

Price of one certified document: 50.00 EUR
The total price of a certified translation includes the cost of translating the document calculated based on its word count, plus the cost of the certification service for each document.

All three types of certification are applicable to any document without limitation, however usually the following documents need to be certified:
  1. Birth, marriage and death certificates
  2. Last wills and testaments
  3. Contracts, agreements and memorandums
  4. Charters, articles of association and shareholder meeting minutes
  5. Property registration records, bank and finance statements
  6. Receipts, warrants and acknowledgments
We recommend our customers to clarify which type of certification is applicable in their particular case and what additional requirements should be fulfilled, as there is no single standard for certification and norms may vary from one State body to another.

Certified translations may be delivered as hard copies to any address at the customer's request. Delivery is possible either within Portugal or to any other country.
